SPOTLIGHT ON PHOTOGRAPHER MIKKO ROBLES
Speed Media’s photographer Mikko Robles
I initially got into photography in 2012 just after finishing high school when my parents bought their first camera, a Nikon D7000. With little to no experience, I decided to self teach myself through several YouTube videos and got into city/landscapes and events.
It was only 6 years later that I would decide to undertake sports photography and messaged a local football club that I happen to stumble upon their junior squads playing one Sunday morning whilst walking my dog at my local reserve. From there, I would shoot their weekly NPL matches and eventually became their club photographer later in the year and travel with them to the Gold Coast to shoot their annual national football tournament.
It was (from memory) mid 2018 where I was browsing Instagram and saw Speed Media Australia through a sports photography hashtag and decided to give them a message the following week. With enough persistence, I managed to gain the trust from Steven Markham to give me a trial at the FFA Cup and Hyundai A-League, and here I am almost 2 years later shooting the Australian Open, The Presidents Cup and Six Day Cycling for Speed Media.
